New York City High in the Sky

By Ellen C. Sistare, DC © ecsistare1@aol.com

During my last visit to New York City

I realized that I never stopped to see that the

majority of its residents are very kind

with deep thoughts on their minds.

I stayed a block from the New World Center,

Sacred ground it is -  you can’t help but feel the vibe,

that changed our way of life forever

that brought our whole nation to its knees with

an empathy that cannot be described.

I went on a tour to pay my respects.

Was nervous at first, thinking of our sad past in retrospect.

I was joyfully surprised to find my fearful thoughts were for naught

for they were  swept out of my head

as I took in the panoramic beauty of New York City.

I noticed that most of the employees were  young and

were relaxed, not nervous or fearful, or in a tizzy

They were upbeat and very busy.

As I took in the aerial view I realized

that the City  has had more great days than bad.

With great food, Broadway shows, and shopping,

And with that, who can be sad?

New Yorkers keep the city alive with love, hope,

understanding, and growth. They don’t let the craziness

of  a few stop their desire to make their city a wonder to view.

Their  determination  allows them to build and rebuild

and keep their city’s pulse beat fulfilled

Peace and hope is the message I see.

Thank You New York City!
